This is my recording of the 4th of July for 2019, done similarly to 2018. Microphones are inexpensive electret capsules encased in facial tissue. I used phantom power to electret plug-in power adapters from Naiant Studio to connect the electret condenser microphones to balanced XLR inputs.
This is a wide stereo recording. One microphone was placed outside a window facing west in my living room and the other outside a sliding door on the east side of the living room. The metal window frame of the living room window has a wire running from it to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface to reduce hum pick-up. The audio was captured with VSTHost and a little light processing performed with Audacity audio editor. All of that was done on an inexpensive laptop computer running Windows 10.

Hi Leona! Hope the post works and plays okay. WordPress updated the way posts are made edited and I’m learning how it all works. I just now fixed a problem with the link “2018′ as it wasn’t linking to my 4th of July post from last year.
Somewhere on one of my back burners (I have a large stove…) I still have that plan simmering to try to mess around with layering your 4th and New Year’s recordings on top of each other in Audacity, and then maybe tweaking them a bit in some way, to see what might pop out on the other end. I’ll let you know if I ever actually get it to come to a boil.
