In regards to the explosion, was that of a power station?
Sorry if it is obvious.

You OK up there, Weatherman? Listening to Geoffrey Chandler’s “Starscapes” tonight and it made me think of you. Hope all is well.

Hi, Weatherman! I saw this video today and thought you might enjoy it. It’s an old steel plant from near my home town. Apparently, the “coke plant” portion is still operating today. Listen to the sound the place makes after 2:19. It was much more active when I was a kid. When we went past this place, my brothers and I would accuse each other of stinking up the car (the place always smelled like strong sulfur). Anyway, they should build some rickety little houses and apartments down inside this place and paint everything black. 😀
Sorry to hijack this arena – but I am happy yet frustrated about several things and I needs to vent…
1. Happy – in extremis – that the big bunch of old shows went up.
2. Frustrated that the forum there seems to be useless. (I’m not even going to sign up if that’s the level of activity – related grousing on this topic further below…)
3. Frustrated, as stated before, about the new group website. When I get to a site, I don’t want pictogram games and hidden dropdown menus. I want to see information, easily viewed at a glance, and simply laid out. Whoever you’re listening to that is saying you need to be more “jazzy” and “eye-catching” – stop listening to them. They are not your friends.
3B. And you need a forum of some kind on there, like the old Write Anything Here. If you had that, I wouldn’t have to be doing this here. (Sorry, David. And I hope you are well.)
5. Trivial, but while I’m here – as has been discussed, I fancy myself one of the leading experts in Dick/Superstation/Moribund matters. On that topic – the show that is up right now labelled as the Moribund show from June 84 – is not that. It appears to be mostly what was on my old (ordered) cassette copy of the Superstation show. And the 5 hour version of THAT that just went up is great – but is also not the cassette. (Obviously.)
My theory, as I believe has been stated before, is that there were and have been so many edits and combinations of that material (I count at least 5 different major configurations at this point, along with other minor variants) that I doubt there is any such thing as an original “complete” tape of ANY of them still in existence, just various edits and work tapes in various states of chopped-up ness.
Anyway – that’s just me, babbling, because that stuff means a lot to me.
And I would also like to say – I’m thrilled to have so much available, and endless thanks once again to any and all who have been involved in that task. But I also hope you guys have some sort of backup plan in mind, or at least don’t have anything too vested over at Archive. Because lately, more and more when I go there, it seems to be using hamsters on wheels to keep things running and using boogers and snot to keep things together. So don’t go down with that ship. That would be sad.
