I did this just because I can. I’m not sure if I’m sorry or not, but my video editor needed to be tested in reverse.

Am I the only one who found that bumper really creepy? I was kinda young when it was in use, so maybe that was part of it.
I hope it is loud enough for everyone. As with most of my recent posts, the peak audio level is up to -.37db. As long as the level stays below 0db, theoretically no digital distortion will occur. TV shows usually (if not always) have a much lower sound level around -12db down to -20 db, which gives more headroom and allowing for a wider dynamic range. I like to hear sounds that weren’t meant for public consumption, such as hum, hiss, surface noise, and studio noise. For that reason, I will push the audio as loud as possible.
When I hear that 1970s PBS sound, I immediately think of bearded, geeky, behind the scenes studio guys working at KQED in San Francisco, rather than getting “creeped out.” Does anyone remember the soothing voice of announcer Bill Triest who was known as the “Voice of KQED” in the 1960s and 70s?
I added this other version just for fun. There was never that much color on the analog TV broadcasts from the 1970s and I added 1.5 seconds of black before and after with fades. I think all three versions are slightly out of sync, as well.
No complaints here. I got this damned ID, logo and “sound” imbedded in my head. Nice to see some fresh perspective to an old favorite…
Hola Again,
Hey the director of Hollow Earth, Garrett, wanted me to pass along word that if you’re free on March 24th, you’re invited to perform at an improvised show as part of Magma Fest. It’s a fundraiser event for the station. I get the impression that means you could make whatever sounds you like. Details for the festival haven’t been posted, but should be available soon. Btw, you should blog your call in! We blogged it over at the station. Hopefully some folks got to hear it. It came out pretty great.
Josh, Thank You for the invitation, but this time of year I have to deal with taxes. Usually all of March through April 15th I am preoccupied with paper work and this year is no exception. Later in April (after the 15th), I’ll be able to do more. Just to let you know, there is a new Booper in the works and I will start presenting my progress on that later in April, after Taxes, of course.
