A baby room monitor (BRM) was received on my AOR AR-3000 communications receiver at 49.845 megahertz, narrow FM on June 17, 2008. It was recorded on a PC running Windows XP with a Creative Audigy Soundblaster SE soundcard. The recording was made and edited using Adobe Audition 1.5 software and is presented here as an MP3 at 128 kilobits per second.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’ve used my old baby monitors to receive the same “broadcasts”. I found that older wireless telephones(circa 1996) used the same frequencies as baby monitors. I had a baby monitor reciever turned on once and I recieved the telephone conversation from a neighbor’s wireless telephone. I decided to have a little fun and I used the transmitter from the baby monitor to broadcast my voice over the same radio frequency. Needless to say, the neighbor was quite freaked out! He thought there was someone in his apartment on another telephone!
I remember years ago in San Anselmo, California picking up one of those 49 Mhz baby monitors all over town. I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. It seemed to be strongest near the intersections of high voltage power lines. I would walk all over town with my scanner, earphone and a puzzle I never solved.
My onr year old daughter found that clip very amusing!!!
