Random Intelligent Visualization which is included with Winamp and using a screen capture application to record the images and sound. Be sure to go to my YouTube page to see it in high definition.
Here is what I used to generate the sound. Click on the picture to see a high resolution image. I neglected to save the settings, but I can tell you that one of the eight oscillators was set at 528 hertz and the others were roughly on harmonics of 528 hertz above and below. Then with Adobe Audition in multi-track mode I imported the recording and created two additional copies, for a total of three stereo tracks. On tracks two and three, the sound was changed to double speed and half speed. All three tracks were processed with flanging effects. I set the phase shift to 180 degrees and resonance was set as high as possible (just before oscillation and distortion) and the speed as slow as possible. At this point the three tracks were mixed down and exported to a single stereo .wav file.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThat’s really beautiful. Thanks very much for sharing it.
did u not post the accompaning audio? am i not doing it right?
Davey Jones finally got out of the luxury chair… Whenever I think of Davey Jones, I think of that beautiful, fictitious tirade. Davey was great!
Thank you FifthDream. The sound is at a lower level than some of my other projects, around -12db and lower. Sorry you can’t hear it, odor news. As for Davy Jones, I have to admit I am a fan of Davy Jones and the Monkees in general. I can distinctly remember tuning my parent’s little black and white TV to KRON channel 4 in San Francisco at 7:30PM on Monday evenings in 1967 to watch “The Monkees.”
This effect would be great with one of your Boopers…
Is the Winamp visualizer you used called Milkdrop? I’m not sure if it’s included in the download of Winamp or not. If you don’t have that one, I highly recommend it. You can download it from the media library in WMP, under Winamp Add-ons.
It’s more than a decade old, yet still holds-up as an amazing visualizer.
I used “Random Intelligent Visualization” in Winamp to generate the visuals and play the sound, and Fraps (Frames per second) screen capture with audio to make the video. This made a giant file, several gigabytes in size of uncompressed video. The big file was changed to Flash video (448 x 240, 16 x 9) for this site and high definition mpeg (1920 x 1080,16 x 9) for uploading to my YouTube page. In addition, I downloaded the high definition (16 x 9) mp4 file that YouTube automatically makes when a high definition file is uploaded and made it available here.
Thanks for the info! Try Milkdrop, you won’t be disappointed. It’s especially good with “low energy” audio like this; with louder, more upbeat stuff Milkdrop looks great, but it kinda overwhelming visually, but with downtempo/quieter stuff (like ambient or spoken-word) it’s truly amazing. It responds interestingly to the audio on this kind of stuff.
This actually makes a background sound to some of your family tapes. How about a family tapes release with an ambient background like this? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
lets just be nice to the weatherman.
I am here. And pahool, that’s okay and actually, possibly a good idea.
Hey weatherman, big fan of your jams here. Could i sample this for song i am working on?
It’s a great idea! The haunting ambient sounds work well with the relatively sparse vocals of some of the family tapes. And speaking of which, a family tapes box set would be a great Negativland release. Perhaps an mp3 cd or dvd like the recent Duke of Madness Motors release. Of course it’d be great if you included a booklet with photos or something, but I think even the bare cd would be popular, given the popularity of the willsaphone stupid show cds. I understand the boys have been pestering you to do this very thing. Don’t disappoint your public!
Kozydude, at this time all of the “Stuff” on my site can be sampled, used, or whatever. I have thought about offering items for sale at higher quality such as DVD, WAV or FLAC files. So far, I’m only thinking about it.
on subject of ambient sound with family tapes,. I have listened to different ones (the 43:00 minute ones along with Harold BUdd Pavillion of Dreams as background,. very enjoyable. I wish I had recorded my family gatherings,. family is all gone mostly and I wish I had these aural memories,. well done sir.
Ok no problem, i’ll leave a link above to my project and if you could, please email me if you decide to put some stuff out for sale. I would love to show other people your work through my, while giving credit where its due. Thanks again for the Ham Jammers!!
Hey Weatherman, was a little confused by your last message: Can i sample this track for my Album that i am releasing next year or not? I can credit you but i don’t know if i can pay any royalties as i am still a local artist. Maybe someday though
