Sometime in the 1980s, Negativland used this educational film in a performance at a small planetarium in Oakland, California. I actually own a 16-millimeter copy of the film, but it is in such poor condition, I decided to present it courtesy of The A/V Geeks on The Internet Archive. I don’t remember much about the performance, but I’m quite sure my mother was in the audience. Maybe I can get Mark Hosler to comment on the film and performance. I definitely think some of my own obsessive compulsive behavior can be attributed to this film.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackOh my lanta! I don’t know whether to thank you or curse you for that A/V Geeks link. That could keep a person busy for a lifetime. If I could only solve this problem of there only being 24 hours in a day. Along with working silly little things like sleep into them….
Thank you also – no cursing! – for the link back to your Rototiller post. The Rototiller Singalong is one of my favorites – possibly THE favorite – of all the OTE CD releases.
Thank you for that, Leona. Be sure to check out my latest post “Workplace Training Films 1958 – 1959.”
Ay yi yi. It’s a bottomless well! Actually, I kind of knew all that stuff was out there. But now you’ve sort of brought it more to my immediate attention. Have to start planning a downloading schedule for them. Along with all the others I’ve got going…
By the way – I didn’t think to mention it before, and I bet you haven’t listened to it in a long time – but my love for the Rototiller Singalong show should actually have already been apparent in a rather significant way. I’ll just leave it at that for that and see if you can work that out… 🙂
I’m not sure, but maybe you wanted to hear this. Starting at about 1:55:54 a voice says “this is Leona.” The Rototiller bit starts at about 1:48:55.This may not be the only version considering Don is saying it’s already been recorded and the phone calls aren’t live.
Ah! Thank you so much for this. I’ve been making my way through gradually downloading all of those – obviously quite the project. I had gotten the abbreviated version of the original show that’s up (from ’87), but I was not aware of this one.
I’m downloading it now, but briefly scanning through it, it sounds like he’s making a new mix from several things, including portions of that show (or probably the CD). And yes, that is indeed “my” moment. The way you just sort of continue on and ignore “her” after “she” says “I don’t have a lawn” just kills me. I wish the whole original show still existed, but I gather Don must have chopped up the ones that were used for the eventual tape and CD releases, and parts got lost over the years.
So now you know the origin of my pseudonym. But that’s OK. “X-Ray” blog posts, and all that. 🙂
