I think I stumbled onto several feeds of wireless microphones from a performance. Actually, I was searching for a PA system wireless mike feed from the big fair we have in Seattle every year at the beginning of August, called Seafair. There was one signal at about 513.2 megahertz that appeared to be the KIRO – TV channel 7 audio, but they were very careful to cut off their mikes during commercials. Channel 7 televises Seafair every year. The signals were all wide band FM, and due to the great distance (possibly over a mile), there was a lot of fading and drop outs. The large wide areas that show up on the display while tuning, and appear to be strong signals are local digital ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) Seattle TV channels. I used SDRSharp and Airspy to receive wth a simple ground plane verticle antenna, extended to about 5 and a half inches. The antenna is mounted on a microphone stand, inside my house. Screen capture was done with Potplayer.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackthanks for posting. Ever try an outside station antenna?
I’ve thought about it, but I don’t want to be conspicuous. Worse yet be labelled a Peeping Tom. With these software defined radios I’m hearing signals no conventional radio would ever receive. At this time I will continue to receive radio content from antennas “inside my living room.”
Great post Weatherman!
Too bad those airhead hip-hop girls don’t sound intelligent enough to realise they ARE on the air and potentially embarrasing themselves with their salty language.
When somebody is live and nobody else is around to hear, do they make a sound? Yes, because the Weatherman (and Stupid Seth) is monitoring YOU!
Thank you stupid Seth. Obviously, you’re not stupid. I know I have too much time on my hands and probably shouldn’t be snooping. Eventually, all wireless microphones will be digital and there will be no more eavesdropping. There is decoding software available and I’ll probably try to learn how to use it with the SDR radio. The software I’m experimenting with right now is called DSDPlus digital decoder. http://www.dsdplus.com/
This works with police and public safety, but not high fidelity digital signals like wireless microphones.
